Radio, Mar. 12: Hollywood vs. America

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, DenverTo listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The recent Academy Awards, like much of Hollywood's output, peddling such falsehoods as the greater threat of the CIA and oil companies in contrast with Islamofascism ("Syriana") or the greater threat of anti-communism in contrast with Stalin and Mao ("Good Night and Good Luck"), position the movie industry as an adversary to the America most of us live in and love.

The dominant unions in government-run K-12 and higher education, NEA and AAUP, are similarly positioned, to judge from the examples of Jay Bennish and Ward Churchill -- though countless individual educators are well-intentioned and centrist, or even apolitical, in their daily work.

It's objectionable for these trusted institutions, arbiters for the worldview of millions, to pour cynicism on our country's heritage and values. I regard it as a timebomb for cultural self-destruction. "Backbone Radio with John Andrews" will look at the problem this Sunday. Please tune in and call in.

** Young Hollywood conservatives Jason Apuzzo and Govindini Murty, a producer married to an actress, run the Liberty Film Festival and have choice words about the moral bankruptcy of the Oscars. They'll be my guests on the show.

** Denver Post columnist Jim Spencer wrote this week that the trouble with Overland HS isn't the propagandistic Mr. Bennish, it's the discontent of student Sean Allen and the criticism from former Congressman Bob Schaffer. Spencer will join me too.

** We'll also discuss the endangered species follies with attorney Kent Holsinger... Bush's health care reforms with policy analyst John Goodman... and the power of a cartoonist's pen (who knew?) with "Mallard Fillmore" creator Bruce Tinsley.

That's our lineup from 5-8pm this Sunday, March 12, on 710 KNUS in Denver and 710knus.com around the world. Call in with your two-cents at 303-696-1971. Or comment by email, during the show or right now, at backboneradio@aol.com.

There's nothing else quite like Backbone Radio, the most principled, most patriotic, most faith-based, most Colorado-proud spot on the dial. I invite you to join us for another lively Sunday evening of fact, opinion, and insight.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS
